Dr. Nereido J. Rodriguez was born in Havana, Cuba where his family had emigrated from Spain. He graduated from Havana University as a Medical Doctor in 1974 and continued his education to specialize as a Pediatrician.

Dr. Rodriguez has a Masters Degree in ‘Social and Family Medicine’ as well as a Masters Degree in ‘Child Development’ and one in ‘Early Stimulation of Child Development’

In 1994, he came to the United States and began working at Glendale Adventist Medical Center. He began working for Children’s Bureau in 1995 and was one of the first trained facilitators for the NuParent Program. He served many organizations, hospitals, clinics, etc. by facilitating a large number of NuParent sessions. He became the Community Outreach Coordinator and through many presentations at national conventions, took NuParent into its’ current national status. He is currently the Director of the NuParent Program as well as the Training Director.

In 2002, Dr. Rodriguez became a United States Citizen and is extremely proud of that accomplishment.

 

Leilani Parente was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and came to California when she was four with her Polish father and Russian mother. One of three sisters, she excelled in the arts of singing, acting and dancing. After receiving a B.A. in both Liberal Arts and Languages from San Francisco State University, Lani traveled to New York (and performed on Broadway).

After moving to Los Angeles in 1970, she was involved with producing commercials, educational and training videos, etc. with her husband. She then joined the Social Work force of L.A. County and began working with families and children until she retired. In 1999, she joined the NuParent staff and has been very involved with the implementation and development of the program. She assists in all trainings and is the graphic artist for the newsletters, flyers, brochures, etc. Lani works with Dr. Rodriguez at the conventions and assists with presentations to build the partnership base that keeps NuParent expanding and growing. In 2005, Lani became a grandmother for the first time and is thrilled.

 

Marylou Garcia Romero is the second sibling from a family of nine children. She graduated from the University of the East with a BA in BS Secretarial. She is married with three children and loves to cook and dance. Her motto in life is “To Get Knowledge is the Only Way to Get Freedom.” Education is extremely important to her and that is why she insists her children go to school. She feels this is the best gift every parent can give to their children and for their future.
She continues her own schooling, having received a Certificate in Bookkeeping/Payroll Accounting at LACC (Los Angeles City College) to enhance her ability in the Accounting field. Marylou loves to create new things, be it creation of forms, employee achievement boards, dresses, recipes, etc.

As the NuParent secretary, she is in charge of everything that makes NuParent run smoothly and efficiently. She is very committed to the program and is actively involved with all the facilitators and partners who are connected to the NuParent program.
