How does a partner get trained?

When an organization agrees to become a partner and to implement the NuParent program, NuParent conducts a (3) three-day facilitator training session (Step One) for the organization's selected staff members.  The training is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Trainees are required to send in a resume and have parent/child experience.

Trainings are held at our Los Angeles office approximately four times a year. We also train at partner sites (‘on-site’ training for eight or more staff). To receive their final certification as CNF’s (Certified NuParent Facilitators), each trainee must complete a practicum component (Step Two) by teaching at least 12 infants to receive their Infant Certification, 8 toddlers/preschoolers to receive their Toddler/Preschool Certification.

What is included in the training?

The NuParent training is very interactive and goes with the NuParent philosophy that people learn through involvement, not by lecture. Trainees are shown how to facilitate using this style. Trainees enhance their knowledge about the most current parent education issues. They receive theoretical information about NuParent and study all the curriculums. They must bring a resource to share with the group and also bring a doll to use for the Infant Massage demonstration.  The trainees will be expected to do a 15 to 20 minute presentation to the group of one of the activities from the curriculum, providing an opportunity to observe and practice being a facilitator.

All trainees receive NuParent curriculums (Infant, Toddler, Preschool), Parent Guidebooks, NuParent Club Handbooks, starter kits, marketing materials, forms, a CD with everything on it to re-print all written material off their computer as well as a staff liaison for continuing staff support.  They also receive any curriculum or guidebook updates and/or revisions at no further cost.  If a trainee is member of the Board of Behavioral Science (BBS), they are eligible for continuing education hours.  CNF's have the opportunity to attend workshops, and extra trainings.  All necessary materials are in English and Spanish.

Parenting Education Review Training

We offer a bi-yearly Parenting Education Review Training, which is a one day workshop.  This training will help to enhance skills in areas such as, an expanded Infant Massage that will include audio/visual support, current information on early brain and language development, temperament, character, personality, emotions and behavior, as well as how to deal with families from a variety of cultures. The dates will be in April and October of each year and the training will be based in either the Los Angeles NuParent office or at certain sites.
